Vagrant in court for allegedly snatching woman’s handbag

A vagrant, Chinedu Emenike, on Tuesday appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing a woman’s handbag.

The police charged Emenike, of no fixed address, with theft and breach of public peace.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Clement Okuiomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 27, 2020 at about 2: 30p.m at Morogbo Primary School. Morogbo, Badagry area of Lagos State.

Okuiomose alleged that the defendant snatched a bag containing a Tecno phone worth N38,000 from the complainant, Mrs. Grace Iga.

He said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate Lazarus Hotepo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned until Jan. 26, for hearing. (NAN)
