See details of FG’s proposed allocation to education sector in 2022 budget

The Federal Government’s proposed allocation to the Education sector in the 2022 budget has been analysed by BudgIt, Nigeria’s civic tech organisation, raising the standards of transparency, citizen engagement and accountability most especially in public finance.

BudgIt published analysis of the proposed 2022 budget, highlighting Federal Government’s progress with budget reforms and grey areas that need to be addressed.

The proposed budget analysis, which included a breakdown of sectoral allocations, highlighted Government’s proposed budget for the Education sector.

The details are as indicated below:

The total allocation to the sector stood at N875.93 billion, excluding transfers to TetFund.

Of this amount, N174 billion was earmarked for capital expenditure, while N701 billion will be spent on recurrent expenditure.

A breakdown of the total allocation to the sector, including TetFund showed the following breakdown:

  • Ministry of Education (N762 billion),
  • UBEC (N108 billion) and,
  • Transfers to TetFund (N306 billion).

A further breakdown shows the total allocation to the Ministry of Education for tertiary institutions to include:

  • N355 billion for 44 Universities,
  • N112 billion to 33 Polytechnics,
  • N77.62 billion for 27 Colleges of Education and,
  • N67.81 billion to 110 Unity schools.

Breakdown according to institutions showing allocation to Ministry of Education for 44 Universities stood at N355 billion with University of Benin having the highest total allocation, while NOUN racked in the highest for CAPEX:

Total of N112 billion was earmarked for the 33 Polytechnics captured in the proposed 2022 Budget with Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, having the highest total allocation of N10.6 billion, while YabaTech got the highest allocation of N596 million for CAPEX:

Speaking of the Colleges of Education, total allocation to the 27 CoEs captured in the budget stood at N77.62 billion, leaving an average sum of N2.87 billion for each college.
