Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party in Nigeria’s 2023 general election, on Saturday fulfilled his promise made on February 15, 2024, during World Sick Week, by revisiting the Tungan Madaki Primary Healthcare Centre in Abuja.

During his visit, he presented a 2 million Naira cheque for the facility’s upgrade, extended support to the lead nurse and community leaders, and provided aid to the local community.

Mr. Obi’s decision to support the healthcare sector is rooted in his personal experience of the challenges faced by healthcare facilities, reflecting his successful governance initiatives in education and health.

This dedication to implementing reforms is evident in his recent nationwide tour during Ramadan, with a particular focus on Northern Nigeria.

The current state of primary healthcare centers across the country is a cause for concern, with less than 10% operating effectively and over 50% in a state of disrepair.

Mr. Obi’s commitment to providing financial assistance to the Tungan Madaki Primary Healthcare Centre is a step towards addressing these systemic issues, benefiting the 32 villages it serves.

He underlines the importance of a healthy population in driving national development, emphasizing the need for investments in a robust healthcare system that is accessible to all citizens.

Mr. Obi’s actions serve as a beacon of hope for the healthcare sector, showcasing the impact that targeted support and strategic investments can have on improving healthcare services and ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the nation.
