Government of Oyo, a state, South West Nigeria, has reassured cattle herders reports of some grazing cattle being poisoned aren’t backed by fact.

Rather, says the state government on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital, it is dedicated to promote interest of residents to promoting peaceful coexistence and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

This assurance came after an incident where some grazing cows were reportedly poisoned in Ologolo, Alafara area in Ido local government area of the State.

According to a statement from the office of the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government swiftly responded to the situation after being alerted by residents and relevant authorities.

The aim was to prevent any potential conflict between herdsmen and community residents, said the commissioner.

There has been history of retaliatory conflicts between herders and residents over death of livestock in the state.

Prince Oyelade commended the efforts of security agencies such as the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and the Nigeria Police Force for their swift actions during the incident.

He mentioned that the police have engaged with Fulani leaders and the Yoruba community in the area, and security personnel are on high alert round the clock to maintain law and order.

He encouraged residents of the community to carry on with their daily activities without fear, assuring them that the situation is being managed effectively.
