Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Tuesday raided the foreign exchange black market located at Wuse Zone 4, Abuja and arrested the Bureau De Change (BDC) operators who have their offices in the area.

The BDC operators later returned to their base shortly after the EFCC operatives had left.

One of the operators, who simply identified himself as Sani, told Daily Trust that the operatives came in three vehicles parked in different places.

He said some of his colleagues were arrested.

Alhaji A. Mohammed, another operator, said security operatives had also raided the area recently and arrested some of the operators.

A woman, who was at the market to buy dollar, said the raid distorted transactions yesterday.

She, however, said if the raid was to stop the fall of the naira, it should be lauded.

The Central Bank of Nigeria had last week announced a plan to redesign higher naira notes to curb inflation and since then, EFCC operatives and other security agencies have been keeping eyes on the market.

When contacted, the spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren confirmed the raid but declined further comments.
