Former Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien is facing a significant financial setback as two of his luxurious mansions in Accra, the Ghanian capital, have been ordered to be auctioned by the Accra High Court.

The court’s decision comes after Essien failed to repay substantial loans he obtained from various banks and financial institutions in Ghana.

The properties slated for auction are located at Stephen Quarshie Crescent, East Legon, House Number 9, and House Number 204/205, Trassaco (Phase 2), Adjiringano, all in Accra.

One of the properties is reportedly valued between $20 million and $30 million, indicating the significant wealth Essien accumulated during his illustrious football career.

The 41-year-old former midfielder played for top-tier clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Lyon, earning him a reputation as one of the most successful African footballers.

However, his current financial struggles have led to the court ordering the sale of his assets to recover the debts.

The Deputy Sheriff of the High Court (Commercial Division) issued the order for the sale on June 12, 2024, marking a critical turn in Essien’s financial predicament.
