Saudi Arabia Halts Stoning Ritual Due To Heatwave

Pilgrims on Mount Arafat

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has temporarily suspended the stoning ritual at Jamarat Bridge from 11 am to 4 pm due to extreme heat.

The decision aims to protect pilgrims from heat stress and ensure their well-being. Security personnel will enforce the restriction, and service providers will be held responsible for any violations.

This measure comes as over 1.8 million pilgrims perform this year’s hajj, with temperatures soaring.

The stoning ritual, a crucial part of the hajj pilgrimage, symbolizes rejecting temptation and affirming faith in Allah.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Hajj Commission has apprehended two illegal migrants attempting to infiltrate pilgrims’ tents, highlighting concerns about accommodation and petty theft.

The suspects were handed over to Saudi Police and fined 10,000 Saudi Riyals.

The heatwave has also led to 2,700 cases of exhaustion and 14 deaths among Jordanian pilgrims.

The Saudi government has warned of the risks and taken measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
