In a ground-breaking move, the Ohaneze Ndigbo has publicly endorsed the roadmap presented by the Igbo-Biafra Nationalists Movement and the Indigenous People of Igbo Nation for self-determination.
The adoption was publicly made by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo while addressing newsmen at the headquarters of the sociocultural group in Enugu.
The blueprint which was published over a span of three months—May, June, and July 2023 according to the convener of the movements, Mazi Uche Okafor-Mefor, outlines strategic plans and proposals concerning the future of the Igbo Nation within or without the Nigerian state.
Mefor in a statement he made available to NewsBand, said that the endorsement will serve as a formal initiation of dialogues with the Nigerian government about the status and future of the Igbo people.
Additionally, he specifically called upon the Ohaneze Ndigbo and political representatives from the South East Zone/Region to legally challenge the Nigerian state for the cabination of the South-East to only five states.
He argued that it is pure inequality when compared to the six or even seven states that other zones in Nigeria are divided into.
“The endorsement and call to action signifies a united front, aimed at addressing longstanding issues of inequality and underrepresentation of the South-East within the Nigerian political arrangement”, Me added.
