Police nab couple over attempt to sell 2-yr-old son to fund Canada trip

Police authorities in Lagos State have arrested a couple accused of trying to sell their two-year-old son to fund their relocation to Canada.

The arrest was confirmed by the police Lagos State police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

He the couple, aged 28 and 22, were detained on Tuesday during their attempt to sell the child.

“At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the Isolo Divisional Police Officer received a tip-off that a couple had arrived at Isolo General Hospital with the intention of selling their baby boy,” Hundeyin reported.

“Police officers swiftly responded and intercepted the couple at the hospital just as the transaction was about to take place. The child, who is two years old, was rescued.

“Upon interrogation, the couple admitted they planned to sell their son to fund the husband’s trip to Canada in search of better opportunities”.

Hundeyin added that an investigation into the case is ongoing.
