Four killed as boat sinks in Sokoto

Boat mishap which occurred in Dundaye community, Wamakko local government area of Sokoto State have taken the lives of four residents.

The unfortunate incident was confirmed by Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, the head of the Sokoto Field Operation Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Tuesday.

He said the accident occurred on Sunday evening, and a combined rescue operation involving NEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services, the State Emergency Management Agency, and local divers managed to recover the bodies of the victims on Monday.

According to Kafindangi, 24 people were on board at the time of the accident, and 19 were successfully rescued.

One body was recovered on Sunday while three more was recovered on Monday. Unfortunately, one person remains missing, and search and rescue efforts are ongoing.

Kafindangi however, expressed his gratitude to the state and local governments, as well as community members, for their continued support in the rescue operations.
