BREAKING: Tinubu to swear in new CJN on Friday

Following the official retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, President Bola Tinubu will on Friday, 23 of August 2024, swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the President, Mr Ajuri Ngelale.

He said the ceremony will take place at the Council Chambers of the State House.

Also, President Tinubu extended his congratulations to Justice Ariwoola on his retirement, marking the conclusion of a career in public service.

Justice Ariwoola’s career included notable tenures as a Justice of the Court of Appeal across various divisions before his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2011.

He was appointed CJN in 2022, where he significantly contributed to the judiciary.

In his statement, Mr Tinubu hailed Justice Ariwoola for his impactful leadership and contributions to Nigerian jurisprudence, acknowledging his role in fortifying the legal system.

He expressed gratitude for Ariwoola’s service and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.

Justice Kekere-Ekun’s swearing-in will be a key moment for the judiciary, as she assumes the role of CJN.
