Minimum Wage: FG concludes salary adjustment negotiations with Labour

The committee on consequential salary adjustments, constituted by President Bola Tinubu’s administration in response to the National Minimum Wage Act 2024, has concluded its task.

Both Labour and the committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to officially cement the adjustments.

The committee which is made up of 16-member was charged with the responsibility of implementing the new minimum wage of ₦70,000 approved by President Bola Tinubu.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, led the committee’s efforts on behalf of the President.

Recall that on July 18, Mr Tinubu had approved the increase of the federal minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 for federal workers.

Following the signing of the MOU in Abuja over the weekend, Mrs. Walson-Jack hailed the committee members for their dedicated efforts and collaboration.

“Both the trade union and the government sides have agreed on the Consequential Adjustments in Salaries arising from the new minimum wage of ₦70,000,” she stated, as reported in a release signed by Mrs. Eno Olotu, Head of Information and Public Relations at OHCSF.

Mrs. Walson-Jack stressed that this negotiation process was one of the shortest and most peaceful in recent history.

Meanwhile, the signed MOU will be forwarded to the federal government for further action.

Comrade Benjamin Anthony, the National Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council representing the trade union, expressed his satisfaction with the committee’s work and commended the HCSF for her leadership throughout the process.
