IEDPU conference: Kwara Governor presents Urban renewal gains

In a significant display of progress, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq highlighted his administration’s achievements during the 59th national conference of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) on Wednesday.

The event, held at the Emir’s forecourt, saw the Governor commending Emir Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and other stakeholders for their unwavering support.

During his address, Governor Abdulrazaq acknowledged the IEDPU’s critical role in fostering peace and harmony within the Emirate.

He emphasized the urban renewal initiative, which has led to the upgrading of several roads in and around Ilorin, aimed at enhancing economic prosperity for residents.

Moreover, the Governor pledged his administration’s commitment to completing the IEDPU’s technology hub, which is designed to empower youth and promote social mobility.

“We do not take this support for granted,” he stated, expressing gratitude to the Emir and IEDPU leadership.

Reflecting on past challenges, Abdulrazaq noted a guest lecturer’s concerns about the socioeconomic legacies of the Ilorin community.

He proudly declared that significant transformations are underway, with major road projects like Sulu-Gambari Road and Ibrahim Taiwo Road enhancing the city’s infrastructure.

In a broader context, the Governor announced plans for extensive reconstruction across the state, including Offa.

He also revealed ongoing efforts to revive local economic activities, particularly in pottery and hospitality sectors.

Highlighting the Ilorin Smart City project, Abdulrazaq assured that no land was seized without proper compensation.

He invited community members to participate in this historic development, which includes the construction of 250 housing units in 2025.

The establishment of the Kwara State University of Education in 2025 will usher in a new era of socioeconomic growth.

“Infrastructural turnarounds are happening,” he affirmed, noting the completion of 145 roads since 2023.

Despite the challenges accompanying large-scale development, the Governor urged patience from the community.

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting the IEDPU’s initiatives for a peaceful and prosperous Ilorin Emirate.

The event attracted numerous dignitaries, including local government chairpersons and industry leaders.

Notably, Amb. Yahya Seriki donated N100 million for ongoing projects, demonstrating strong community support.

IEDPU President Abdulmumin Ayo AbdulMalik praised the urban renewal efforts, emphasizing their importance for Ilorin’s physical development.

He called for further government investment in infrastructure, including roads and healthcare facilities.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Oba, chairing the event, praised Governor Abdulrazaq for his unwavering commitment to promoting peace.

He highlighted the Governor’s dedication to enhancing social welfare in the community, noting its significance for citizens’ well-being.

Prof. Oba also acknowledged the positive impact of the Governor’s initiatives, which have transformed the lives of many citizens.

Furthermore, he called for increased resources and opportunities to ensure these vulnerable populations can actively participate.
