Martinez’s injury: A major setback for Manchester United

Manchester United ‘s defensive lineup faces a significant setback as defender Lisandro Martinez reportedly tore his cruciate ligaments.

This injury occurred during the recent defeat to Crystal Palace, where Martinez limped off the pitch in the 82nd minute after an awkward fall.

Prominent Argentine journalist Gaston Edul broke the news via a video on his X account.

He stated, “Lisandro Martínez had a rupture of the cruciate ligaments, so he will not play for the rest of this European season.”

Edul noted that recovery could take between six and eight months, marking a devastating blow for Manchester United.

This injury adds to a series of significant setbacks since Martinez joined Manchester United in 2023.

Over the past year, he has battled various injuries, keeping him off the field for extended periods.

So far, he has missed 78 days and 14 games due to a metatarsal fracture and 106 days and 26 games with a foot injury.

Additionally, Martinez faced 55 days and 10 games lost due to a knee issue, along with 30 days and six matches missed between April and May last year due to a calf strain.

In total, since 2019, Martinez has been sidelined for 371 days, missing 69 games for both club and country due to injuries.

As Manchester United grapples with this latest challenge, hope remains that Martinez will recover fully and return for the next season.

The Red Devils must now reassess their defensive strategy and seek potential reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
