Massacre in Plateau: Amnesty International demands urgent action

On Monday, a tragic event unfolded in Zikke village, Bassa Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State, as at least 51 individuals lost their lives.

Following this horrific attack, which happened last night, widespread condemnation erupted from various groups, including Amnesty International, a prominent human rights organization.

Reports indicate that gunmen stormed the village under the cover of darkness, leaving a trail of destruction behind.

Homes were looted and set ablaze; as a result, the once vibrant community became a desolate landscape of ashes.

Tragically, many victims could not escape because of their age or infirmity, leading to their merciless slaughter.

Among the dead are numerous children and elderly individuals left defenseless against the onslaught.

Amnesty International has voiced its outrage regarding the incident, labeling it a “horrific attack” that underscores severe security failures in the region. Just two weeks prior, another deadly incident claimed 52 lives, intensifying concerns about residents’ safety and security in Plateau State.

Furthermore, Amnesty International urged an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the security failures that permitted this tragedy.

“The organization emphasized the need for accountability and justice for the victims.

They insisted that the inexcusable security lapses allowing this horrific attack must, therefore, undergo thorough scrutiny.
