The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai [above] Monday said he escaped assassination attempt by Shiite on his convoy by the will of God.

Buratai convoy was allegedly attacked last week by members of the Muslim sect, Shiites in Zaria, Kaduna State, which resulted into killings of many members of the Muslim group.

Addressing newsmen shortly after closed door session with other security Chiefs before the Senate committee on Defence, he said the Shiite members were violent.

He said,” You want to know how I escaped?  It was by the will of God that I was able to escape from that place,” he said.

When asked to give his account of the attack, he says ” I think NTA was there and they aired the clip, it was very clear. They were violent. Definitely this is very clear. The clips are there. That was what happened”.

He urged Nigerians to be law abiding, saying “nobody should take the law into his hands”.

Before the closed door session, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Samaila Aliyu said his ministry is to pay N10.6bn compensation.

Aliyu saud” We have judgements that have been delivered against us. Some have gone up to the Supreme Court.  One is for N8.5bn and the other is for N2.1bn. We have backed the request with the judgements, ” he said.
