Obaze Promises Anambra Primary Schools Better Amenities, Free Education

The flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Anambra gubernatorial election slated for November 18, Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, has promised to provide quality amenities for Anambra primary school students.

Mr Obaze also promised that his administration will grant all Anambra children from Nursery School to JSS 3 free but quality education.

Obaze made this remark while on a visit to Akpu, in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. 

The gubernatorial candidate, midway into the visit, elected to use student’s convenience facilities in a nearby primary school.

He observed that the toilets were clean and sanitized, but could be greatly improved to meet modern standards [see below]:

According to him, Anambra school children deserve better.

Beyond amenities, Obaze said that teacher training and retraining, access to computer and Internet facilities, teaching and learning aids, appropriately sized classrooms, as well as well-furnished laboratories are essential to 21st century learning. 

He pledged that his government will prioritise education and ensure that our children are properly equipped to excel in a highly competitive 21st century global marketplace.

Earlier, Obaze said his government, if elected, will commit 26% of the state’s budget to education. 

He said 10% of the state’s education budget will be dedicated to private schools and schools run by missions.

Obaze pledged his administration will grant all Anambra children from Nursery School to JSS 3 free but quality education.

This is in agreement with Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that “Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages”.
