The Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] has declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who won four out of the five local government areas in the Abia North Senatorial election re-run, winner of the poll.

INEC had earlier declared the just-concluded Abia North election senatorial held on Saturday inconclusive.

Ohuabunwa defeated former governor of the state and candidate of the Progressives Peoples Alliance, PPA, Orji Uzor Kalu; Dr. David Onuoha-Bourdex of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Nnenna Nma Lancaster-Okoro of the All Progressives Congress.

Results obtained by Elombah.com indicates Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Pary, PDP, is cruising to victory:

Abia North senatorial district election yesterday:

PDP – 26,009

PPA – 25,814

APGA – 13,633

APC – 916

LP – 147

UPP – 117

With the above results, political observers say it is wrong to describe the results of the election as “inconclusive”.

“This is a rerun poll and you do not rerun a rerun. Nothing like comparing cancelled votes to winning margins because it is not a fresh poll”, Elombah.com was told.
