More Relief to Borno IDPs – NEMA

In order to address the malnourishment scourge ravaging the Internally Displaced People (IDP) of the north east, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) north east zonal office in Maiduguri, yesterday released another batch of 80,000 bags of rice, maize, beans and Sugar for the feeding of 1.6 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at various resettlement camps and other satellite centers across Borno State.

The Agency also released 2,100 cartoons of Maggi cubes and 2,400 jerry cans of vegetable oil for consumption by the IDPs beginning from this month of October to November.

This was disclosed by the North East Coordinator of NEMA, Mallam Mohammed Kanar, during the flagging-off of another round of distribution/presentation of relief items to officials of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for onward delivery to IDPs in the state.

The presentation was done at the central store of NEMA, north east office in Maiduguri, amidst the presence of  prominent state government officials.

Kanar,  said the decision to hand over these items to the Chairman of SEMA, Engineer Ahmed Satomi, was based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NEMA and SEMA, this is to as to complement efforts of the state government and other humanitarian agencies in taking care of victims of insurgency in the region.

“We in NEMA are glad to hand over yet another set of relief items for onward delivery to our IDPs in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area.

These stock-piled relief items which we are handing over is for for the month of October to November, 2016. This is with exception of other IDPs who were residing in about 13 resettlement camps across some council areas of the state, which NEMA also carters for.”
