In a landmark ruling today, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted an indefinite adjournment of a hearing on an Order it had made last November on forfeiture of the bail bonds posted on behalf of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In that last November ruling, Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako had made an order of interim forfeiture, mandating the sureties to each deposit One Hundred Million Naira at the Court registry within two months of the Order or face the prospects of imprisonment.
The sureties are Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Rabbi Emmanuel Ben Madu and Uchendu.
Following the order, the lawyers to the sureties had immediately appealed the ruling and also applied for Stay of Execution of the Order pending when the Court of Appeal disposes of the appeal.
The lawyers are Barristers Aloy Ejimakor, Chukwuma Machukwu-Umeh and Ifeanyi Chude.
Today, the court granted the application for indefinite adjournment, which means that for as long as the appeal is pending, the sureties do not to worry about forfeiting their bonds or going to jail.
