The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially confirmed Umar Damagum as the party’s substantive National Chairman.
This pivotal decision was finalized on Monday during the party’s 102nd NEC meeting at its national headquarters in Abuja.
Damagum, who has been steering the PDP as Acting National Chairman since March 2023, stepped into the role following the suspension of former chairman Iyorchia Ayu—a move that was later upheld by the courts.
Before taking on this leadership mantle, Damagum served as the PDP Deputy National Chairman (North), bringing his extensive political experience to the position.
With this confirmation, Damagum’s leadership is now firmly established as the party gears up for critical challenges, including preparations for the 2027 general elections.
His appointment is seen as a stabilizing force for the PDP as it seeks to strengthen its position and navigate the political terrain ahead.
