Judiciary workers petition Chief Justice Kekere-Ekun over unpaid entitlements

Federal Judiciary workers in Nigeria have appealed to the Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, over the prolonged delay in paying their outstanding increments and entitlements.
In a letter sighted by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), addressed to the Chief Justice, Oyewole Kayode Emmanuel, writing on behalf of the concerned workers, emphasised the financial strain and distress that the lack of timely payment has caused for many employees in the judiciary.
“For an extended period, our dedicated workers in the Federal Judiciary have been waiting for the payment of their rightful entitlements, yet nothing has been done,” Emmanuel wrote.
“This issue has persisted, causing significant distress and financial strain for many who have always committed themselves to serving justice in Nigeria.”
He highlighted the vital role federal judiciary workers play in upholding the rule of law and ensuring Nigeria’s legal system functions smoothly.
However, despite their dedication, delays in compensation have led to diminished morale among the workforce.
“The commitment to our duties is unwavering, but the lack of timely remuneration undermines our morale and productivity,” Emmanuel explained.
The letter also acknowledged the challenges the government faces but urged the Chief Justice to prioritise resolving the issue, stressing that timely payment is vital not only for the welfare of the judiciary workers but also for the efficiency and integrity of the entire legal system.
“We understand the government’s challenges, but it is essential that this matter be resolved quickly,” Emmanuel said.
“Ensuring that judiciary workers receive their rightful dues is a matter of great importance, as it will reinforce the integrity of our legal system.”
The concerned workers have called for immediate action to resolve the payment issues and for a clear timeline to be provided.
“We kindly request that you take immediate action to resolve this matter and provide a clear timeline for the payment of these outstanding amounts,” he added.
