(DDM) – A community leader in Kwara State has alleged that some of the bandits terrorising villages are foreigners operating freely across local communities.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Anu Ibiwoye, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, raised the alarm during an interview on Channels TV on Tuesday.
He disclosed that over 3,000 residents of 15 communities in Babanla town, Ifelodun Local Government Area, have fled due to persistent attacks.
The crisis, he said, has triggered fear, mass displacement, and economic collapse across Kwara South, with farms abandoned and markets shut.
Ibiwoye alleged that testimonies from kidnapping victims confirm that the attackers include Fulani bandits and non-Nigerians speaking foreign languages.
He recounted a particular attack where nearly 100 armed men stormed Babanla on motorcycles, shooting sporadically before abducting villagers.
The monarch’s wife was kidnapped, vigilante members were shot, vehicles burned, and some defenders set ablaze, he revealed.
He accused the Kwara State Government of failing to provide meaningful security support or relief to traumatised residents despite repeated appeals.
“The governor did not visit. The government has not provided help in terms of logistics or relief,” Ibiwoye said.
He warned that unless urgent steps are taken, communities across Kwara South risk being permanently deserted, leaving the region vulnerable to deeper lawlessness and poverty.
