Anambra arrests four for SASA impersonation in Achalla community

(DDM) – The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has apprehended four individuals for allegedly posing as its operatives in the Achalla community.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the suspects were caught parading the streets in counterfeit uniforms and carrying fake identity cards while extorting and intimidating residents.

SASA Director General Monday Onwe strongly condemned the act, warning that impersonation of government enforcement units constitutes a serious crime that will not be tolerated.

He clarified that the squad currently has no approved operations in Achalla and urged the public to report suspicious activities by fake operatives.

According to Onwe, only the state governor has the authority to sanction official anti-touting deployments, a process designed to uphold professionalism and ensure accountability.

Authorities confirmed that the arrested suspects are being investigated, and they will face full prosecution upon completion of preliminary findings.

The incident has raised concerns over criminal exploitation of government initiatives, particularly in areas struggling with revenue collection and street-level law enforcement.

Officials assured residents that the government is committed to safeguarding communities from fraudulent activities that exploit public trust in security operations.

Onwe added that mandatory training and certification are required for all SASA operatives to ensure discipline, integrity, and operational efficiency.

Residents of Achalla expressed relief over the arrests, noting that extortion by fake enforcers has created fear and economic strain in the community.

Security experts warn that impersonation of law enforcement agencies often leads to abuse of power and deepens distrust between citizens and genuine authorities.

The Anambra government has vowed to strengthen verification systems for security personnel and intensify monitoring to curb further incidents.
