Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has approved the sum of ₦680 million for the renovation of cemeteries across all 34 local government areas in the state, describing the initiative as both a public service and a spiritual act to seek Allah’s blessings.
Announcing the decision on Thursday while hosting royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates, Governor Radda revealed that each local government will receive ₦20 million to carry out the renovation project.
In addition to the cemetery renovation, the governor unveiled a comprehensive welfare package aimed at supporting traditional and religious institutions in the state.
Under a newly enacted law passed by the State House of Assembly, all District Heads will now receive salaries equivalent to Grade Level 16, while 6,652 Ward Heads across the state will be provided with monthly allowances.
Furthermore, over 3,000 Imams and their deputies serving Friday Mosques will receive stipends, and mosque sweepers in Izala and Darika Mosques in all 34 LGAs will also be supported with monthly allowances.
Governor Radda also reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, highlighting ongoing efforts to empower local youths to contribute to security initiatives.
He disclosed that over 1,500 young people have been trained and equipped with uniforms, life jackets, and operational tools to enhance security measures.
Emphasizing the importance of collective action, he urged traditional and community leaders to raise awareness and encourage public participation in safeguarding the state.
“Security is a collective responsibility; we must unite to protect our people”, he stated.
Earlier, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, represented by the District Head of Baure, Alhaji Daha Umar-Farouq, expressed solidarity with Governor Radda following his recent car accident in Daura.
Similarly, the Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, who represented the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, commended the governor for his reforms, which he said have “restored dignity to traditional institutions and strengthened their role in governance and community developmen”.
He pledged continued support through prayers and cooperation to promote peace, unity, and prosperity across Katsina State.
The governor’s initiatives have been widely regarded as a step toward fostering development, enhancing security, and empowering traditional and religious leaders to play a more active role in the state’s progress.
