Women in politics: Akpodiete Foundation empowers PDP women leaders in Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency

(DDM) – The Olotu and Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation has celebrated its seventh anniversary by empowering women leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, Delta State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the colourful ceremony was held on August 28, 2025, at the Otor-Ihwreko Town Hall.

Foundation strengthens PDP women base

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Hon. Dr. Olotu Otemu Akpodiete, Ph.D., stated that the empowerment was designed to improve the welfare of PDP women leaders and reinforce the party’s political structure.

He stressed that the PDP remains resilient despite recent defections of the state governor and some key stakeholders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“By the grace of God, come 2027, we shall take over the affairs of our country Nigeria,” Dr. Akpodiete declared.

PDP leaders commend empowerment drive

The three PDP Local Government Area Chairmen present commended Dr. Akpodiete for his generosity and dedication to the party.

They encouraged the women leaders to continue mobilising support and spreading the party’s vision across the constituency.

According to the leaders, the forthcoming national convention would mark a new phase in restructuring and revitalising PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Our national convention is coming soon to restructure and strengthen the party,” they noted, adding, “No women, no politics.”

Unity call and renewed confidence

Udu LGA Acting Chairman, Comr. Kenairu Johnbull, delivered a keynote address where he assured members that the PDP would soon bounce back as a stronger political force.

“Any moment from now, we are holding our convention and the party will bounce back fully,” he said.

He urged the beneficiaries to continue spreading the PDP message and assured them that the empowerment initiative was only the beginning of greater things to come.

Women leaders pledge loyalty

Udu PDP Acting Women Leader, Mrs. Okiemute Godspower, expressed gratitude to Dr. Akpodiete for his commitment to grassroots development.

She pledged that the women would remain steadfast in their loyalty to the party and its leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Come 2027, we would stand firmly with both the party and the convener,” she said confidently.

Gifts and vote of confidence

Each beneficiary received a wrapper and cash gift from Dr. Akpodiete, sparking excitement and appreciation among the attendees.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the unanimous vote of explicit confidence passed on Dr. Akpodiete, Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, Chairman of the PDP South-South Caretaker Committee, and the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

Party leaders grace occasion

Prominent PDP leaders in attendance included Hon. Daniel Emaye, Acting Chairman, PDP Ughelli North LGA; Olorogun Akpokemerha Godwin, Acting Chairman, PDP Ughelli South LGA; and Comr. Kenairu Johnbull, Acting Chairman, PDP Udu LGA.

The event further strengthened the morale of party faithful and signalled PDP’s resolve to reclaim its political dominance in Delta State ahead of 2027.
