Obi shared details of the meeting on his official X handle, describing Jonathan as his “elder brother, statesman, and leader.” He added that their discussion was fruitful and focused on the state of the nation.

“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation,” Obi posted.

Although neither side disclosed the full details of the conversation, the meeting comes at a time when debates about Nigeria’s political future and governance under President Bola Tinubu continue to dominate national discourse.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, has in recent years become a respected mediator across Africa, focusing on conflict resolution and democratic stability. His influence has extended beyond Nigeria, earning him recognition as a continental statesman.

Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election behind Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, has continued consultations with political stakeholders nationwide. His recent engagements are seen by analysts as part of wider conversations on possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
