Eyewitnesses reported a heavy emergency response, with dozens of police and medical vehicles stationed along the highway near the facility.

This is not the first time immigration facilities in Texas have been targeted. In July, armed men dressed in black military-style uniforms opened fire outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, southwest of Dallas.

That attack left a police officer wounded, and federal prosecutors later charged 11 suspects.

The Dallas shooting comes just a week after three police officers were fatally shot while serving an arrest warrant in York County, Pennsylvania.

The incident, described by Governor Josh Shapiro as “tragic and devastating,” highlighted the increasing risks faced by law enforcement officers across the country.

Authorities say the Dallas gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are now working with local police on the case.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, at least 62 U.S. law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty in 2025, underscoring the growing dangers linked to gun violence and targeted attacks.
