The Federal High Court in Abuja has halted proceedings in the police suit against Omoyele Sowore and other organizers of the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.

The court activities came to a standstill today, October 20, 2025, due to heavy security deployment and tear gas firing by the police.

The hearing in the police suit against Sowore and others was stalled due to the court’s shutdown.

There were heavy security deployments with water cannons in and around strategic locations, including the intersection between Gana Street and Shehu Shagari Way, Nicon Hilton Hotel, and National Assembly Junction.

Justice Mohammed Umar had restrained Sowore and others from protesting in sensitive areas, including the Aso Rock Villa, National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

The protest is aimed at securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is facing alleged terrorism offenses.
