A tragic incident unfolded in Sokunkpan village, Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, where the Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, was lynched by an enraged mob over allegations linking him to the death of a villager.

The chaos erupted after Ibrahim Gana, a 25-year-old resident, passed away on November 4, 2025, following an illness for which he had been hospitalized.

After Ibrahim’s death, his brothers, Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, accused the Chief Imam of being spiritually responsible for the loss.

This accusation incited anger among some community members, leading to a violent attack on the Imam at his residence.

Armed with dangerous weapons, the mob assaulted him until he succumbed to his injuries.

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the incident, describing it as a clear case of jungle justice.

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved.

Police spokesperson SP Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, in a statement issued on Thursday, condemned the act, stressing that mob violence and extrajudicial actions are criminal and punishable under the law.
