US Congresswoman Nancy Mace has expressed deep concern over escalating violence against Christians in Nigeria, stating that the country has become “one of the deadliest countries in the world for Christians”.
She criticized the Biden administration for removing Nigeria from the Country of Particular Concern list, while praising former President Donald Trump for taking a firmer stance on global religious freedom issues.
Trump had earlier redesignated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, citing claims of genocidal attacks on Christians, and hinted at possible US military intervention if the violence continues.
However, Congressman Bill Huizenga downplayed the likelihood of military action, suggesting Trump’s comments were driven by frustration rather than a concrete plan.
Huizenga believes targeted sanctions would be a more effective approach, cutting off funding networks for violent groups and restricting travel for individuals involved.
He pointed to Trump’s diplomatic history, stating that he prioritizes peace over war and would be selective about military intervention.
