Political moves underway to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release – Benjamin Kalu

Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has announced that efforts are shifting toward a political resolution to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This comes after the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment on terrorism charges.

Kalu expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu would respond positively to appeals from respected Igbo leaders advocating for Kanu’s freedom.

He urged residents of the South-East and Nigerians across the country to remain calm, emphasizing that the situation remains hopeful. “It is now time to explore political solutions that had been hindered because the matter was before the court,” Kalu stated. “Now that the court has concluded, we can intensify requests for the president’s intervention, and we are confident he will not be averse to it.”

Reassuring his audience, Kalu added, “We are going to get it. All hope is not lost. Our people should remain calm.” The Deputy Speaker underscored that with the judicial process completed, the focus now shifts to political pathways aimed at fostering peace and unity in the region.
