Troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade under Sector 4 of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully thwarted a large-scale assault by ISWAP/Boko Haram insurgents in Chibok, Borno State, early Saturday morning.

Supported by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jets, the troops not only repelled the attackers but also inflicted heavy losses on the retreating fighters during follow-up airstrikes.

The attack, launched around 3 a.m. by over 300 insurgents advancing from multiple directions, aimed to breach defensive positions and overrun military deployments in the area.

However, the troops responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a fierce two-hour firefight.

According to a security source, the soldiers displayed exceptional alertness and professionalism, pushing the insurgents back toward the Timbuktu Triangle without sustaining any casualties or equipment losses.

As the terrorists retreated, ground forces requested air support, prompting NAF combat aircraft to carry out precise strikes along the escape routes.

Four major airstrikes targeted clusters of fighters attempting to regroup, severely degrading their forces. Additional strikes were conducted against militants dispersing into the forest, with unmanned aerial platforms providing continuous surveillance and precision engagements to disrupt their movements further.

Sources confirmed that the coordinated actions of ground troops and air power caused significant losses among the attackers, preventing them from reorganizing after the failed assault.
