Bandits Kill Elderly Woman, Abduct Three in Kano

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed an elderly woman and abducted three people during a late-night attack on Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The attackers stormed the quiet farming community on Saturday night, catching many residents asleep.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said security operatives had been deployed to track down the assailants and rescue the abducted victims.

“We are doing everything possible to rescue the kidnapped victims and restore calm to the area,” he said.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the gunmen rode into the community on motorcycles but abandoned them at the outskirts to avoid detection. They reportedly proceeded on foot and split into groups before launching the assault.

A resident, who asked not to be named, said the attackers shot an elderly woman who pleaded with them not to take her son.

“She begged them to spare him,” he recounted. “They ignored her, shot her, and took the young man away.”

The gunmen also raided another house, where they abducted two women, including the sister-in-law of the local ward councillor.

Security personnel were said to be combing surrounding forests as of the time of filing this report. No arrests have been confirmed.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent raids across northern Nigeria, where rural communities continue to face persistent threats from bandits despite ongoing security operations.
