(DDM) – Kano State Government has proposed a budget exceeding ₦40 billion for the health sector in the 2026 fiscal year.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, on Monday in Kano.

Dr. Labaran presented the Ministry of Health’s 2026 budget before the State House of Assembly Committee on Health.

He explained that the allocation is aimed at consolidating ongoing healthcare reforms and strengthening service delivery across all 44 local government areas in Kano State.

According to the commissioner, the ministry will begin recruiting over 2,600 new health workers starting next week to address staffing gaps in hospitals and primary healthcare centres.

The upgrades are expected to reduce patient waiting times, improve emergency response, and deliver efficient healthcare services to the citizens of Kano.

He said, “We are committed to rebuilding our hospitals and equipping them with modern technology that will ensure quality and efficient healthcare services for the people of Kano State.”

The commissioner praised Governor Abba Yusuf for his sustained investment and unwavering attention to the health needs of the state’s population.

DDM reports that the proposed health budget represents one of the highest allocations in the state’s recent fiscal plans, reflecting the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure.

Observers note that the recruitment and modernization of facilities could significantly improve service delivery and patient outcomes in both urban and rural communities.

The proposed budget also underscores the state government’s strategy to attract and retain qualified health professionals in underserved areas.
