Atiku Abubakar has welcomed Peter Obi to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it a significant milestone in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
Atiku expressed optimism about working together to build a formidable alternative to the ruling party, stating, “Today marks a significant moment in the history of political coalitions in our country”.
Obi had announced his defection to ADC in Enugu, citing a broader plan to transform and rescue Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.
He pledged the opposition’s resistance to electoral malpractice, saying, “We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027”.
Atiku called on other opposition figures to join the coalition movement, saying, “I hope this inspires other patriots to join the cause”.
Obi also urged opposition leaders to unite under a common platform, led by former Senate President David Mark.
