Three soldiers and a civilian woman have reportedly been killed following what security sources described as a reprisal attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Garaha district in Adamawa State.
The attack occurred late Saturday night at about 11:00 p.m., according to residents familiar with the incident.
Reports from the area indicate that the armed group approached the community from multiple directions, firing sporadically before targeting a military formation stationed in the district.
Eyewitnesses described the assault as coordinated and sudden, saying the attackers appeared to have planned the operation carefully.
Survivors said the insurgents overwhelmed the military camp after catching personnel off guard.
Isaiah Yerima, a resident who spoke about the incident, explained that soldiers attempted to repel the attackers but were ultimately overpowered.
According to him, the attackers reportedly ambushed the troops from the rear through the Lar axis, which contributed to the loss of three soldiers during the confrontation.
A civilian woman was also killed, reportedly struck by a stray bullet as she attempted to flee the violence.
Residents said the attackers razed a primary school in the area during the assault, adding to the destruction recorded in the community.
The military base was also set ablaze, with reports indicating that nearly all structures within the camp were destroyed.
One structure said to have remained standing after the attack was a church building identified by locals as Living Faith Church.
Sources further alleged that the insurgents looted weapons from the military formation before retreating.
Among the items reportedly taken was an armoured vehicle, in addition to other equipment and supplies.
Community members described the aftermath as devastating, stating that soldiers stationed at the camp lost personal belongings, food supplies, and other essentials in the fire.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Alhaji Usman Inuwa, called on both the federal and Adamawa State governments to strengthen security strategies in the region.
He urged authorities to adopt measures aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in affected communities.
Adamawa State, located in northeastern Nigeria, has experienced repeated attacks linked to insurgent activity over the years.
Security agencies have continued operations aimed at curbing extremist violence in the region, though sporadic attacks still occur.
As of the time of reporting, military authorities had not issued an official detailed statement regarding the casualties or the extent of equipment losses.
