President Bola Tinubu and his wife departed Abuja on Tuesday for a state visit to the United Kingdom, even as Nigeria reels from a series of deadly bomb attacks in Borno State.

Diaspora Digital Media reported that the attacks occurred in Maiduguri on Monday evening, claiming at least 23 lives and injuring 108 others.

Explosions hit three high-profile locations: the Monday Market, the Post Office Flyover, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

According to ASP Nahum Daso, preliminary investigations indicate that suspected suicide bombers carried out the coordinated attacks.

Security agencies, including the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and the military, responded swiftly to secure the areas and prevent further harm. Victims were evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Despite the ongoing crisis, preparations for Tinubu’s UK visit continued at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, with top officials, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, present to bid farewell.
