At least 22 migrants have died off the coast of Greece after spending six days drifting at sea in a small rubber boat.
According to survivors, the group ran out of food and water during the journey. Some of those who died were reportedly thrown overboard on the orders of a smuggler.
A total of 26 people, including a woman and a child, were eventually rescued by a vessel operated by Europe’s border agency near the island of Crete. Two of the survivors were taken to hospital for treatment.

The migrants had set out from Tobruk in eastern Libya on March 21, hoping to reach Greece, which is often seen as a gateway into Europe.
Greek authorities say they have arrested two young men suspected of organizing the journey.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers many migrants face while attempting the risky sea crossing from North Africa to Europe—a route that has already claimed hundreds of lives this year alone.
