Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai, popularly known as Lily Afe, has voiced her frustration after being left out of the Best Supporting Actress category at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The actress, celebrated for her standout role as Idia in the Netflix original To Kill a Monkey directed by Kemi Adetiba, took to X (formerly Twitter) soon after the nominees were revealed.
“I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation,” she wrote. But Lily didn’t stop there, delivering a sharp message to the organisers
Fans quickly rallied behind her, praising her boldness and insisting that her performance particularly her authentic use of pidgin English and commanding presence on screen deserved recognition.
The Best Supporting Actress category this year includes heavyweights such as Linda Ejiofor (The Herd), Bisola Aiyeola (Gingerrr), Sola Sobowale (The Covenant), and Funke Akindele (Behind The Scenes).
The 12th AMVCA ceremony is set for May 9, featuring 32 categories that celebrate excellence in African film and television, including audience-voted, jury-voted, and special recognition awards.
Lily’s unfiltered reaction has ignited debates about fairness and recognition in Nollywood, with many fans affirming that her performance was one of the year’s most memorable.
