The National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, met with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on Wednesday, as speculation grows over the governor’s possible defection from the PDP.
Yilwatda arrived at the Government House alongside Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The meeting was held behind closed doors, and none of those involved spoke to the press afterwards.
Sources within the Government House say the visit may be part of efforts to convince Bala Mohammed to reconsider his reported move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and instead join the APC.
The meeting comes just a day after the governor hosted a delegation from the ADC, led by former SGF Babachir Lawal, further fueling talk of a possible switch.
Speaking after his meeting with the ADC delegation, Bala Mohammed blamed his possible exit from the PDP on the ongoing crisis within the party.
He said attempts to resolve internal disputes had failed despite several reconciliation efforts.
“We’ve done everything possible to fix things, but it hasn’t worked,” he said, adding that discussions had been held with multiple political parties.
The governor hinted that the ADC is currently the most attractive option, though no final decision has been made.
He stressed that consultations are still ongoing to avoid making the wrong move.
Mohammed also suggested that his camp feels unwelcome in the APC, which has influenced their leaning toward other parties.
However, he left the door slightly open, saying they could still consider joining the APC if the party shows genuine interest.
For now, the outcome of the talks remains unclear. With political alignments shifting and negotiations still ongoing, Bala Mohammed’s next move could have a significant impact on the political landscape ahead of future elections.
