Bwala Denies Calling Tinubu Drug Lord Allegation

ABUJA — A presidential aide, Daniel Bwala, has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that he described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “drug lord,” insisting that the allegation is false and not based on any verified statement made by him.

Bwala, who serves within the administration of the President of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the controversy arose from misleading interpretations and unverified posts shared online, which he claims do not reflect his actual remarks or political stance.

The clarification comes amid heightened political sensitivity in Nigeria, where public figures and political commentators are increasingly scrutinised for statements made both in traditional media and on digital platforms.

According to Bwala, at no point did he refer to the President in the manner being circulated online. He explained that the claim originated from social media accounts that often distort or fabricate political narratives to generate controversy and public attention.

The presidential aide urged Nigerians to be cautious about consuming and sharing unverified information, especially at a time when political discourse is highly charged and prone to misinformation. He added that such narratives can easily escalate into public misunderstanding and unnecessary tension.

The controversy reportedly gained traction after screenshots and posts began circulating online, attributing the statement to him. However, supporters of the administration quickly dismissed the claims as false, while critics demanded clarification, further intensifying the debate across social media platforms.

Bwala emphasized that his role in government remains focused on public communication and policy advocacy, and not on engaging in personal attacks against the President or any other political leader. He maintained that his loyalty to the administration remains intact.

Observers note that the incident reflects the broader challenge of misinformation in Nigeria’s digital political space, where unverified claims often spread rapidly and shape public perception before official clarifications are issued.

Political analysts say the episode underscores the growing need for stronger fact-checking mechanisms and responsible media consumption, particularly during a period of intense political debate and governance scrutiny in Nigeria.

The presidency has not issued an official statement regarding the viral allegation, but aides within the administration have continued to dismiss it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

As the story continues to circulate online, attention has shifted to the role of social media in shaping political narratives, with many calling for greater accountability from both content creators and users who amplify unverified claims.
