A medical doctor, Dr Ere Ogbachi, has died in Bayelsa State following complications that occurred after she delivered triplets.
The incident was confirmed in a Facebook statement on Wednesday by her brother, Meshack Sintei, who disclosed that she passed away at about 2:45 a.m. on April 14, 2026, at the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa.
According to the family, Dr Ogbachi successfully delivered the triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, but developed complications shortly after childbirth, which necessitated an emergency transfer to intensive care in Yenagoa.
The statement noted that despite efforts by medical personnel at the ICU, her condition deteriorated rapidly.
“We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her,” the family said.
It further revealed that her oxygen levels reportedly dropped sharply during treatment, declining from 70 to 50 and eventually to zero, despite resuscitation efforts.
Sintei described her death as devastating, noting that she died after a prolonged medical emergency and had “fought to the end.”
He also described her as a dedicated physician, mother of triplets, and registrar at NDUTH, as well as a member of the Nigerian Medical Association and an alumna of Niger Delta University.
“She was a fighter to the end. A generation has been lost, and the Sintei family mourns deeply,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, hospital authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident.
