Remain steadfast in prayers, Tinubu urges Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has addressed Nigerians, urging them to remain steadfast in prayers.

Tinubu addressed Nigerians during the 40th anniversary celebration church service of the Abuja archdiocese of the Methodist church on October 13, 2024, held at Methodist Cathedral of Unity, Wuse Zone 5.

Nigerians were exhorted by Tinubu to keep up their unwavering prayers for their leaders, their communities and the country.

Additionally, he admonished the Nigerian Methodist Church to continue praying for their nation without giving up.

Their prayers continued to be a source of support and direction, The Nation quoted Tinubu as saying.

Tinubu was represented at the event by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike.

Other dignitaries at the event include previous Head of State General Yakubu Gowon and former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

Others are Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former Senate President David Mark, and Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

Speaking on behalf of Tinubu, Wike said: “I urge you, to remain steadfast in your commitment to prayer, not just for your communities but for our beloved Nigeria and its leaders.

“Your prayers are a source of strength and guidance as we navigate the complexities of governance”.

The president further encouraged the church to carry on its goal of compassion, outreach, and service.

Additionally, he implored them to collaborate closely with the government and uphold the principles of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to reports, this agenda will assist in building a Nigeria that will fulfill the expectations of its people as a whole.

President Tinubu asserts that Nigeria must present a unified face in order to overcome its current issues.

He admonished: “Today, I call upon you to continue your service, outreach, and compassion mission.

“The challenges we face as a nation require a united front.

“Your church can be a platform for social transformation, where individuals come together to enact change, promote peace, and uplift the people.

“By working hand in hand with the government and embracing the tenets of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We can create a Nigeria that reflects our collective aspirations”.

He discussed the efforts of the church during its one hundred- and eighty-two-years history in Nigeria.

The President stated that the church has played a significant role in fostering unity and peace in Nigeria.

He said that this is because of its teachings, which encourage understanding, love, and reconciliation.

“The Church has been instrumental in promoting peace and unity in our nation.

“Your messages promoting love, reconciliation, and understanding through the years have fostered dialogue among diverse communities, encouraging us to embrace our differences and work towards a common good.

He also praised the Methodist church for its long history of social justice, education, outreach to the poor, and nation-building.

The President expressed his congratulations to the Abuja Archdiocese for accomplishing the 40-year mark.

He asked the congregation to consider how the Methodist church affects society.

He urged them to renew their commitment to the principles of love and service that the church upholds.

The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Oliver Ali Aba, in his speech, called for support for the government.
