IBADAN, OYO STATE — The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State has confirmed the killing of a suspected armed robber in Iseyin during a security operation, alongside the rescue of an abducted farmer and the arrest of multiple suspects linked to kidnapping activities.
Police authorities said the operation was carried out following intelligence reports on criminal activities in Iseyin and surrounding communities.
During the raid, officers engaged suspected armed robbers in a gun duel, resulting in the death of one suspect, while others reportedly fled the scene with injuries.
Security operatives also arrested additional suspects believed to be part of the criminal network operating in the area.
In a separate but related operation in Irawo, police successfully rescued a kidnapped farmer who had been held by suspected abductors.
Four individuals identified as members of a kidnapping syndicate were also arrested during the rescue mission.
Police sources said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to curb rising cases of robbery, kidnapping, and violent crime across Oyo State.
The recovered victim has since been reunited with his family and is receiving medical attention and psychological support.
Authorities stated that preliminary investigations are underway to track other members of the criminal gangs who escaped during the operations.
The police command said the success of the operations was made possible through timely intelligence gathering and collaboration with local communities.
Residents in affected areas have expressed relief following the crackdown, while urging security agencies to maintain sustained patrols.
Security experts note that kidnapping and armed robbery remain major challenges in parts of southwestern Nigeria, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.
The police have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to dismantle criminal hideouts and prevent further attacks.
Community leaders have also been encouraged to work closely with security agencies by providing credible information to aid operations.
The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety of lives and property across the state.
Analysts believe improved intelligence sharing between citizens and security forces is key to reducing crime rates.
The police added that arrested suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Attention now remains on follow-up operations aimed at apprehending remaining members of the criminal groups still at large.
