A 5.2-magnitude earthquake has struck southern China, leaving two people dead and causing widespread damage in parts of the Guangxi region.

Authorities confirmed that the victims were a couple who died following the impact of the quake, which also led to the collapse of several structures and triggered emergency response operations.

The earthquake reportedly caused panic among residents, with many rushing out of homes and buildings immediately after the tremor was felt.

China has experienced multiple seismic events over the years due to its location along active geological fault systems.

Experts explained that earthquakes occur when energy built up within the Earth’s crust is suddenly released, generating vibrations that travel through the ground.

Depending on the depth and location of the epicenter, even moderate earthquakes can cause severe damage in populated communities.

Seismologists often warn that aftershocks can follow major tremors, increasing risks to damaged buildings and rescue operations.
