‘The Return of Arinzo’ Expands to Tanzania After ₦276.9m Global Box Office Run

Nollywood actress and producer Iyabo Ojo has announced that her film The Return of Arinzo is set to begin screening in cinemas across Tanzania, marking another major step in the movie’s international rollout.

The film, which features a star-studded cast drawn from Nigeria, Ghana, and Tanzania, is a high-stakes sequel to the 2013 Yoruba blockbuster Arinzo. It explores intense themes such as revenge, betrayal, family secrets, crime, political tension, and personal transformation, weaving together a dramatic storyline that has resonated strongly with audiences across West Africa.

Since its release, the movie has enjoyed impressive box office success. It reportedly earned ₦104.8 million during its opening Easter weekend, a performance that set records as the highest-grossing Easter opening and the biggest opening weekend for a Nollywood sequel in history.

The film continued its strong run, maintaining the number one position at the box office for two consecutive weeks and accumulating about ₦224 million in total earnings during that period. By its third week in cinemas, it added another ₦28.8 million, pushing its cumulative gross to approximately ₦276.9 million.

Iyabo Ojo shared the latest development on social media, announcing the film’s expansion to East Africa and expressing excitement about its reception beyond Nigeria. According to her, the movie will officially begin showing in Tanzanian cinemas from May 29, giving fans in the country the opportunity to experience the highly anticipated sequel on the big screen.

The international release is expected to further boost the film’s reach and revenue, following successful screenings in West Africa, the United Kingdom, and Canada. With its growing global footprint, The Return of Arinzo continues to strengthen Nollywood’s presence on the international stage while showcasing cross-cultural collaboration within African cinema.
