Trump Arrives in Europe for G7 Summit

US President Donald Trump has arrived in Europe ahead of the G7 summit in France, carrying with him a newly announced agreement between Washington and Tehran that is expected to dominate discussions among world leaders.

The deal, unveiled over the weekend, is aimed at easing tensions between the United States and Iran and restoring stability in the Gulf region.

However, several key aspects of the agreement remain unresolved.

Vice President JD Vance said the agreement was electronically signed over the weekend, indicating that its provisions are already taking effect.

He also stressed that the deal does not include any new financial relief for Iran.

According to Vance, the Trump administration plans to publish the full text of the agreement within the next few days to provide clarity on its terms.

One major issue still being negotiated is the long-term reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. While Trump has claimed that ships are already beginning to move freely through the strategic waterway, Vance said discussions on a permanent arrangement are continuing through what he described as “technical negotiations.”

Iran has also offered its own interpretation. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran intends to charge fees for maritime services provided in the strait once operations resume, but insisted the country is not planning to impose transit tolls on passing vessels.

The agreement has also drawn reactions from across the region. Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah welcomed the development but warned that it would not tolerate any future attacks that infringe on Lebanese sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Trump landed in Geneva after an overnight flight from Washington before heading to the French resort town of Évian-les-Bains, where this year’s G7 summit is being held.

One of his first engagements will be a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, a leader with whom Trump has shared both cooperation and public disagreements over the years.

With uncertainty still surrounding parts of the Iran agreement, world leaders gathering at the summit are expected to press for more details on how the deal will be implemented and whether it can deliver lasting stability in the Middle East.
