Nollywood actress Gina Onuoha has stirred major controversy on social media after delivering a blunt and highly critical message directed at Igbo men and women over recurring cases of domestic violence and child abuse.
In a strongly worded statement, the actress questioned what she described as a troubling pattern, accusing Igbo men of constantly trying to assert dominance in marriage while linking trending domestic violence cases to them.
She also called out Igbo women, alleging that cases of child abuse frequently point in their direction.
“What is wrong with you?” she asked, expressing frustration over what she perceives as repeated incidents making headlines.
Gina further referenced the ongoing agitation for Biafra, criticizing what she described as a contradiction between demanding better governance and allegedly failing to address internal societal issues.
Her comments have since triggered intense reactions online.
While some users supported her for speaking boldly and addressing sensitive issues many avoid, others slammed her remarks as unfair generalization, arguing that criminal behavior should not be tied to any particular ethnic group.
The debate has quickly grown beyond her initial statement, with many Nigerians weighing in on cultural expectations, gender roles, and the dangers of stereotyping entire communities based on viral incidents.
As reactions continue to pour in, Gina Onuoha’s statement has once again highlighted how conversations around abuse, culture, and identity remain deeply sensitive and often divisive topics in Nigeria’s public space.
