YOLA, Nigeria — The Independent National Electoral Commission has reported that over 43,000 new voters have been registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Adamawa State, with women leading the registration figures as the commission considers extending the exercise.

A breakdown of the registration figures shows that out of 43,105 new registrants, women account for 22,100, representing 51.3 percent, while men constitute 20,905, representing 48.5 percent of the total. The exercise, which began on June 23, 2026, has also recorded 2,559 requests for voter transfers and 256 requests for PVC replacements.

The Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Muhammad Nura, disclosed the figures during a stakeholders’ meeting in Yola on Saturday, where he provided an update on the commission’s preparations for the upcoming elections. He noted that the commission had recorded a significant number of new registrants, demonstrating the interest of the people in participating in the electoral process.

According to Nura, the commission has been making efforts to ensure that the CVR exercise is accessible to all eligible citizens. The commission has also been engaging with community leaders, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to encourage participation and address any challenges that may arise.

The REC also stated that the commission is considering extending the CVR exercise to allow more eligible citizens to register ahead of the 2027 general elections. He explained that the extension would provide an opportunity for those who have not yet registered to do so and for those who wish to transfer their registration to other polling units.

Nura stressed that the commission is committed to ensuring that all eligible citizens are able to exercise their right to vote, and that the CVR exercise is a critical component of that commitment. The Adamawa State CVR exercise has been ongoing across the state, with the commission deploying registration centres in all local government areas. The exercise has been well received by residents, with many expressing appreciation for the opportunity to register and participate in the electoral process.
